The Elder Gods

Before anything else existed there was a dark nothingness called Khaos. Into this the earth mother Gaea emerged, and she formed the sky, Aethyr. Mother Earth and Father Sky had children. First the plants, then the animals, then all the other monsters and giants and other curious races who are now all but gone from the world.

Gaea and Aethyr begat the Elder Gods, and at first they looked after the people of the world in a just and proper manner. But eventually they became less than they should be: jealous and lustful, spiteful and selfish; and Gaea and Aethyr realised the care of the world must be passed on to the next generation. Two of the Elder Gods refused to come together in union, but the others begat the Nova Gods, those that are worshipped today. The Elder Gods then retired from the world and are now rarely worshipped. Indeed many regard the number six as unlucky.

Thant

Thant is the god associated with time. He was the first god to die following a dalliance with Ishkana. For a long time his wife, Uj, begged Yaq to release her husband from the underworld in spite of his infidelity. It was only after Yaq's own husband, Taranus, also laid with Ishkana that Yaq relented and Thant was released.

[Uj]Uj

Uj is the goddess associated with pleasure and vice. The five gods of the Pentad - Taranus, Yaq, Ishkana, Faum and Werrarum - are her children by Thant. The small carved figure on the left was found on the island of Nurrtef near Cufen and is thought to depict Uj. It is now part of the Emperor's private collection.

Sjenwow

Sjenwow is the goddess associated with war. Together with Lagant, she has three offspring: Liria, the Spider; Terlon, the Serpent and Menth, the Stag.

Lagant

Lagant is the god of the moon. Legend records how Lagant selfishly kept the moon for himself, and it was only when the twins Ulail and Tjanri rescued it that it was placed up in the sky.

Rentu

Rentu is the god of magic and is said to have taught the first wizards. Hence he is reviled by many just for that.

Jarabusa

[The Devoin Lizard] Jarabusa is the goddess of shadows and darkness. She has six fatherless spawn: the Great Harang; the Devoin Lizard; the Walsa Hub; the Wherram; the Yeti and the Ice Jaarg. Each is a horrific monster with a taste for human flesh.
