Rob
Evans was brought to the club in the summer of '98 and immediately started
hitting the back of the net as an out and out striker. He then left the club in the
spring of 1999 after a clash with former manager Dave Hill, but was soon to
return on the appointment of Plant and Craig as managers. Given a free roll up
front the giant striker reveled in the "football with a smile"
culture under the new managers. Has an uncanny gift for completely bamboozling
the opposition and often defenders don't have a clue what he's going to do
next (sadly most of his team-mates are in the same boat). Rob won the Golden
Boot award in 2001/2002 with 11 goals. He bettered this the following
season, netting a career
best 16 goals.
Rob
is rapidly closing in on his 100th goal for the club and if successful,
will become only the third player in Wheatsheaf's history to do so. He
narrowly missed out on winning this seasons golden boot award by one
goal.
