Alan
Lloyd was very close to his former manager at lowly Mill Hill Tavern (to
be honest in most matches he was standing right next to him on the side
line as substitute). So when the chance came to join talented outfit
Birches Head Hotel F.C., in the summer of 1991, he grasped it with both
hands. It was to be a decision that would change his life forever and
would introduce him to the world of championships and trophies.
"Lobby", as he was known to his team-mates could be found
"stalking his prey" at the heart of the Wheatsheaf midfield
and, as many an opponent whose witnessed one of his blood curdling
tackles at first hand will tell you, he was a mixture of football
gladiator and violin carrying assassin.
Alan
holds the club record for scoring in 11 consecutive games which he
achieved when a powerful centre forward. A subsequent article in the
local Sentinel praised this remarkable feat and tipped him to become a
future star. However the pressure proved too much for Lobby and he
failed to score for the rest of the season.
Lobby
retired in 2002 due to a knee/back/foot/toe/calf/ankle injury.
