What
a massive game this was, a chance to avenge last weeks 4 goal mauling.
Managers Plant and Craig dropped Dyche and gave Stanway the nod in
goals. Rainbird was absent tending his girlfriend who had trouble with
her eyesight (well she is with Birdie so that's obvious) so Craig
slotted into the back 4 as sweeper.
The
game started at a frantic pace with Stores on the attack. Only fine
saves from Maskery and Evans kept the score sheet blank. On 24 minutes
the deadlock was broken as Evans burst away on the left skipping past
the fullback to rifle home from an acute angle. Evans went close twice
more but his poor finishing proved costly as on 37 minutes a mistake by
Roberts saw the ball squeezed past the impressive Stanway.
Half
Time: Wheatsheaf 1 - Britannia 1
Stores
piled on the pressure after the break
and again the Britannia keeper denied Evans with a finger tip save
from his diving header. Seymour curled a shot into the top corner only to
see the keeper claw it from under the bar. Seymour was then guilty of a
vicious assault on former player Baggo, which earnt him a yellow card.
Jones had two 30 yarders and a free kick saved before Matt Craig's 35 yard
screamer shaved the post. It seemed like the keeper was going to win
Britannia a point until a free kick was awarded 24 yards from goal. Up
stepped Askey and drove an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
It
was nothing short of what Stores deserved and sends a tremble throughout
the league. Beware the sleeping giants have awoken.
