There were some promising perfromances and a couple expressed an interest in shooting as sport

Sutton Coldfield RPC's stand in the town centre, attracted several enquiries from the public. These will be followed up by an invitation to have-go-sessions at the range. The event was organised by Sutton Coldfield Community Sport Network, of which SCRPC is a founding member body. A second, more ambitious event is being planned for September 27th. Community/local Sports Networks are the Sport England method of reaching sports organisations and it is well worth your club contacting your local network. Find out more about the club on their new website. |

It was hard work getting teams for this and I made a mistake. We had no reserves for pistol and it seemed to be a bad w/end for rifle shooters. Alan Crichton shot a PB. Three of the regular rifle team were not available. Paul Lowe, James Wilcox, and John Halford stepped forward, but John was unable to make it, so pistol shooter Lew Wright shot rifle after his pistol match.
I had forgotten the the NSRA was not running a jr comp, and arranged for three to turn up. However the range and time were not wasted as two juniors came along for some coaching. Results due in a few weeks. Estimated scores
Thanks to all team members and Henley in Arden ARPC.

Schools biathlon 'Taster' shoot
Working with the West Midlands Modern Pentathlon Association, Warwickshire shooters put on an air pistol have-a-go session for junior school children after the biathlon (swim, run). In Modern Pentathlon, shooting is the other discipline in triathlon.
A range was set up the school hall and 30+ children had one-to-two instruction from John and Rachel Andrews (Rokeby), Brett Drummings (8th Warks), Mark Elliott (Kynoch), Ken Harris (Sutton Coldfield), and Trevor Haynes (Kynoch). It was received enthusiastically, with the possibility on several follow-up contacts. They are even talking about next year!

Inter County 10m pistol and rifle competitions.
Three teams shot this annual match of 60 shots. We had teams for pistol, junior pistol and rifle. Seniors were teams-of 5, junior, team of three. Particularly satisfying were the four junior pistol shooters and for the first time in many years a rifle team made up of shooters from sutton Coldfield club and a reserve from Henley.
Looking to the future, the county needs a 10m air rifle captain, and to build up a junior team. at the same time we need to improve performances in pistol and rifle.

Regional Biathlon, Birmingham
Previously run in Womborne, Staffs, the event transferred to the Bluecoat School in Birmingham. Ain addition to the qualifier for the nationals, a triathlon, featuring shooting was run by Kynoch and Sutton Coldfield members (Melvyn Dykes, Mark Elliott, Trevor Haynes, Ron Bristoll) and a Shropshire shooter (Alex Carson).
After the competition shoot, we ran a taster session for biathletes, with many children and parents taking an interest and asking about shooting.
The next event is a 'taster session at a school biathlon in Balsall Common.
