GEC lantern on concrete post

This is one of very few concrete columns left in Carmarthen, and possibly the only one left on a main road. I don't think concrete columns were ever that common in the area for main road lighting.

This looks like an early design of concrete column for a top entry lantern, and is currently holding a GEC Z9454 variant. I assume this is a replacement, and I have no idea what lantern was originally installed.

The rest of Bronwydd Road is lit by Thorn Alpha 9 lanterns on metal columns and Alpha 9s and GEC Z9454s on telegraph pole brackets.

Update: this column and lantern were removed sometime before 21 November 2004.

Philips MA90

Here is the replacement column and lantern - a Philips MA90. The photo was taken from the other side of the road, but the new column is in the same place as the old one.

Revo Lucidor without bowl

This telegraph pole bracket supports a Revo Lucidor 90W SOX lantern, now without bowl. This bracket could have originally been fitted with an Alpha 9, which was replaced early in life by this lantern - or alternatively the Lucidor could be the original lantern. As this is the only Lucidor in Bronwydd Road, it seems it could be a replacement.

Alternatively, this bracket could have been installed before the Alpha 9s on metal columns - it does look rather old and rusty!

Update: This lantern was replaced by a Philips MA90 with integral gear sometime before February 2006.

Relite Gemini

Relite Gemini 35W SOX lanterns light a small residential cul-de-sac off Bronwydd Road.

Relite Gemini 35W

These Geminis were probably installed during the 1970s and are in good condition for their age.
