Fishguard

Fishguard is a coastal town on at the very West end of South Wales. These GEC Z8430 lanterns were spotted at a roundabout which leads to the port, which is actually in the village of Goodwick just outside Fishguard.

Thanks to Davy Warren for identification - the Z8430 could also been seen in Llanelli until recently.

Fishguard

After reading that SOX lanterns should be installed horizontally, or within a certain number of degrees of horizontally, I was surprised to see this Beta 5 in Goodwick, near Fishguard. This is one of several lanterns to be installed at near vertical position in this area.

This slightly more conventional installation shows a concrete column with arched bracket and post top Beta 5 lantern in Goodwick. There are several of these columns left in the area.

Fishguard

This photo was taken in Fishguard itself. The lantern is an unremarkable GEC Z9454 SOX, but the column is more interesting. It appears to be identical to those in Penygroes and Ammanford, over one hour's journey further east. This would imply that at one time, these were standard across the whole of South West Wales.
