MA90 in Laugharne

The coastal village of Laugharne is best known for being, at one time, the home of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas. I have a vague recollection of REVO Lucidor 90W SOX lanterns lighting the village at one time, although if that were the case, there are no longer any remaining.

Today, the lighting through Laugharne is almost exclusively Philips MA90 lanterns on pole and bracket fittings. These are 1990s replacements, and the brackets look fairly elderly, so there was almost certainly a previous installation of SOX lanterns.

These MA90s are on the standard brackets. The narrow streets through the village are part of the A4066 to Pendine.

MA90 in Laugharne

This photo shows the MA90 on an unusual bracket fitting. This straight bracket is used here because the pole is on a steep hill at the roadside, and the light does not need elevating further.

This is an Eleco Golden Ray GR102, a variation on the popular GR100 design. There are very few GR102s in the area compared to the GR100 - the only others I have seen so far are near Ammanford, the other side of Carmarthen.

The GR102 is the integral gear version of the GR100, and like the modern MA90, the gear is actually housed inside the bowl - which is the same size as that used in the larger GR150.

This was probably a 1970s replacement, and is one of very few non-MA90 lantern fittings in the village.
