The current main road lighting through
Llandovery. The Urbis ZX3 flat glass lantern and bracket are a
recent fitting, as is the elegant green and gold paintwork, but
I believe the column to be older.
Llandovery used to be lit by 90W SOX lanterns, including some
Thorn Alpha 1s. All the Alpha 1s have sadly now disappeared.

SOX lighting and original brackets
have been retained on the main road at the eastern end of Llandovery.
The majority of lanterns are of the GEC Z9454 variety (background),
but there are now some modern MA90 replacements (foreground).

These WRTL Mercia SON-T lanterns
are a new fitting to the main car park in Llandovery, below the
castle. Most columns feature two lanterns as shown here.
Personally, I think I prefer the similar, but slightly more elegant
Urbis lanterns in St Clears.

This fibreglass column has been fitted
with a hockey stick style metal extension and a GEC
Z9484 lantern. It looks like the rust from
the metal extension is beginning to damage the top of the column,
and the door at the base is held on with tape. Originally I believed
the metal bracket to be a later addition, but Jon Salmon thinks
it is probably original.
This photo was taken in a residential estate called 'Gelli Deg'
at the eastern end of Llandovery.
