Red Roses

The hamlet of Red Roses in Carmarthenshire is probably the least likely place you would expect to find these unusual Phosware P157 deep bowl lanterns. Jon Salmon's site shows an installation of these on concrete columns dating from the early 1970s - and I would think these probably date from the same era.

One of the most surprising things about this installation of about seven lanterns is that none have been replaced (although a couple, as shown in this picture, have had their bowls taped secure).

Red Roses

This isn't a great photo as you can see, but it does show four of the lanterns. There is a housing estate on the right, with an access road which is lit by a Phosware P226 55W SOX lantern. I would imagine these would all have been installed at the same time.

Red Roses

This photo shows one of the lanterns from a different angle. Unfortunately the daylight spoils the clarity of the shot, but you can see clearly how deep the bowl is!
