My Story from the
Surfin' Wheeler
Welcome to my domain! I don't want this to be a "Jackanory" tale (you remember it too?), nor am I just building this site to follow the latest trend (that would be a first!). I've been trying to put this site together for a while now and am still trying (health and time permitting). My main aim with this site is to share my experiences with other people, especially young people.
"What can you have to say that's so interesting?" I hear you cry (or maybe not!). Well, keep reading and you may find out. For those who don't know me, I can ramble a bit but I usually get to the point eventually. For those who do know me ... need I say more? For everyone, thanks for visiting, please call back as I will be reviewing the content whenever possible. I have tried to keep graphic content to a minimum so the pages download faster. All comments, queries and laughs - please post in my guestbook.
Who is the Surfin' Wheeler?
Good question, not sure I know but I'll try to explain myself. My
real name is Wendy, I am 29 and was born in Bangor, County Down, Northern
Ireland. I am currently living in the same town, but who knows what
is round the next corner?
4 years ago (when I was 25) I was diagnosed with Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and soon found out that I didn't care what was round the next corner, dealing with everyday life was enough of a challenge! It has changed my life and my thinking quite dramatically but now I refuse to give in to it and am constantly learning to live with it and overcome the obstacles it (and society) creates.
I'd like this website to show other MSers (people with MS) especially young people, that it isn't the end of the world, nor the end of your life, just the start of a new challenge that you can meet head-on. I'm not saying it's easy, no one ever said life would be, but it's a challenge that 2.5 million people world-wide are facing every day. So don't give up, you are not alone! I'd also like to show people in general that illness and disability are nothing to be afraid of. For those of us that society labels disabled, it's just a part of everyday life ... the last thing I'm looking for is sympathy, one thing I am hoping for is understanding.
I don't want to depress anybody so I've tried to keep the content as light-hearted as possible (as if you hadn't guessed). If you think I'm getting too serious at any point, please let me know, I won't be offended (I rarely am). I don't take myself or life very seriously and am always ready for a laugh ... show me an MSer who isn't!
The following Links will give you a bit of background info about me &
my MS and a page full of links to other sites. Some of the info may
be a little too descriptive for some, I won't apologise for it though I have
tried to keep such detail to a minimum. Illness can't always be explained
'nicely'.

What I Love
Dunno if you're interested or not, but it makes me who I am. :-)
My boyfriend Simon -the most incredible man I've ever met.
Life - it rocks!!
Queen - the rock group, not a drag artist. I think they were the best group to ever come out of England and I am nuts about their music. Flash Harry are their Tribute band from Northern Ireland and they certainly do Queen justice!
Whiskey - Bushmills Single Malt is my favourite but I enjoy most brands and am not averse to the odd scotch whisky! :-)
Animals - especially Tigers and Dogs. Mistreatment of either of these wonderful creatures makes me mad.
The sea - I've lived near it most of my life and it still fascinates me.
Computers - my own Indigo iMac in particular, they are the sexiest on the market!
Human Rights - whatever walk of life you are in, everyone is entitled to them.
People - I have been lucky to have met some truly remarkable people during
my life, some of whom have become good friends. I hope that this will
continue.
